Lancaster LL860 of 101 Sqn lost April 26/27 1944 - cause of loss?

Hello again everyone

On the night of April 26/27 1944 Lancaser LL860 SR-I of 101 Sqn was lost, crashing near Viroflay, 4km east of Versailles on a mission to Schweinfurt. I'm trying to find out if the cause of the crash has been identified?

I've had a look at the R.C.A.F. Service File for F/S Donovan, but there's nothing in there to indicate why the aircraft crashed. F/Sgt W. C. Napier R.A.A.F. was the Special Operator on board.

Hi Simon,

According to Theo Boiten latest Nachtjagd Combat Archives they were shot down by Lt Rolf Ebhardt of 5./NJG1 for his 1st victory at 00.24hrs over Troyes south of St Dizier.
It was also claimed by Flak of 1.-4/gem Flak Abt 593. The victory was confirmed to Lt Ebhardt on 12/7/44.
He would survive the war with a total of 8 victories.
