EDIT he was posted to 620 Sqn from 1651 H.C.U. w.e.f 18.8.43 according to the 620 Sqn O.R.B. Form 540, which has his S/No. as 37081 (?)

He had been at 12 O.T.U. too, it seems?

I think it may be a transcription error on FreeBMD? The actual image of the register seems to show Philipsen, rather than Philipson. Mother's maiden name Brookes, registered St. Asaph.

The Baptism record on ancestry.co.uk shows his parents as Johan Arnold (a Marine Officer*) and Emily Annie.

*a Ship's Master, not a Royal Marine! He was born in Copenhagen in 1875.

A/P/O A P Philipsen posted to 52 Squadron on 8th January 1938 from No 11 FTS where he remained until at least 2nd October 1939 when he was sent on a tracer firing course at Boscombe down.

Hi Mojmir,

I deleted my post as I think there is quite a bit more on this family.

Banff is where his next of kin, Aileen Scott Philipsen, maiden name Marston, was living.

She was born in Denver, Colorado 11 August 1914; deceased Abbotsford, BC May 21 2000. Obituary is in the Whitehorse, Yukon Daily Star but the family seems to have spent plenty of time there post-war.

Philipsen's father was the harbour master in Yokohama. In 1924, following the great Japanese earthquake of 1923 the family came to Canada. Philipsen joined the RAF in 1936, came to Canada in 1941 under EATS and attended No. 31 EFTS at DeWinton, AB. Mrs Philipsen had lived in the UK three years before the war. Their son was born in Oxford and daughter born in Banff.
