Well the name was Cummings in newspaper so I dimissed Cumming and the other Cummings service number issued

Hello,
Just another string to follow is the date's of raids on Hamburg. I think that the earliest was a leaflet raid on the 3/4 September 39.
10 Whitleys, 3 from 51 Sqn and 7 from 58 Sqn.No losses but 3 a/c were forced to land in France. Aircraft were -
51 Sqn
K8938,K8941,K8982.
58 Sqn
K8969,K8973, K8964, K8990, K9006, K9009, K9013.
( Cannot remember but these were discussed some time ago but was it this forum or TOCH ?).

The next was on the 4/5th January '40 leaflets by Wellingtons.
Ref: BCWD Middlebrook & Everitt.

If the report is right then they came down in France and at some unknown date were returned to the UK. So hospitalised then ?

One of the (many) things that don't add up is that the article says they crash-landed at Nancy. It's not exactly on the way back to the UK from Hamburg, is it...?

Another angle , would a local newspaper print a rather detailed report of a local man who was about to be wed . Could this have been a "false news" report to bring home to the population what they were to expect if the war got worse ?
Did the Government approve reports of such kind ?
Reason being that he seems so far to be untraceable, Awards etc ?
