Default Help with unknown lather jacket worn by the RCAF airman

    Hi all,

I am looking for help to indetify this leather jacket and also the insignia on the right side. This was worn by a RCAF observer posted to the UK, the photo was probably taken in early months of 1943 already in the UK.

I have excluded the idea that the jacket was just loaned to him for the photo due to the fact the Observer badge is sewed on it.
Also the cutting seems to me different from the USAAF jackets and it has more pockets than usually so it may be just a private jacket?
The insignia looks like a skull (?) and the white spot would be just a scar on the photo I believe.

Any ideas regarding both the jacket and the insignia will be welcomed.

    TIA

    Pavel

    Dear Pavel,
I've just done a google search and wondered if this may have belonged to a member of 428 Sq RCAF (Ghost Squadron) whose emblem was a skull. There are several different versions of the skull image and this could be another?
It may possibly be an Apache from 421 Squadron, but it does look more like a skull.
    Best wishes
    James

This is the insignia I’m familiar with…

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No._428_Squadron_RCAF

Note that at least with 419 Squadron, the “heraldry” wasn’t official until November, 1944. I’ll bet that 428’s heraldry would have a similar date. So the photo, below probably predates the official heraldry for 428. I have a signed version of the official heraldry for 419 but it’s buried away in a box at the moment as we are still unpacking after moving.

Hi all, thank you both for suggestions.
It still remains a mistery, but I came to conclusion it might be something "private".
