Thankyou , thatís a great start , the cap has an officer badge on now but you can see where a warrant officer one has been, is there any way of finding his squadron or aircrew position if of course he was aircrew??

    Sure.

Go to www.naa.gov.au and use the man's service number as a search parameter. You'll see his service file has not been digitized as yet.

So, a matter of paying for it (it's currently down so I can't tell you what the fee is). Click on "request copy". https://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/Sear...5530391&isAv=N (this link will time out)

If you don't want to pay and can wait until next year, they will all be free:

NB: World War II Army and Air Force service records (Series B883, B884, A9300 and A9301)

The National Archives will digitise all records in these series by June 2023. Records will be progressively added to RecordSearch as they are digitised and will be available free of charge. If you wish to digitise a record in advance, please select Ďcontinueí to order an online copy. We aim to make that copy available within 30 business days of receiving your paid request.
How will I access the online copy?

Once we receive your payment, we will make an image of each page of the record available online for viewing in RecordSearch. You will also have the option to download a PDF copy of the record and/or print a copy of the record from the PDF.
When will the online copy be available?

We will notify you by email (if you have provided a valid email address) when the online copy is available.

Our standard of service is to provide online copies of records which at the time of ordering are cleared for public access within 30 business days of receiving your paid request.

    Hello,

Firstly, Ian Hugh Garrett was born in Waratah, Tasmania, not Victoria. He died at the Southport General Hospital, Gold Coast, Queensland, not Warrandyte, Victoria, on 1 November, 1978.

You will find some additional information (not much more), on Garrett in his Australian Military Forces Attestation Form:

    ORB for 463 Squadron shows
I H Garrett W/O Navigator posted out to RAF Gamston on 22/09/1945. There is no other mention of him that I can find.
