Default Flt LT Eric Norman FOINETTE - 12 Squadron - 1942 Wellington details

    Hello,
I am trying to trace the aircraft in which 12 Sqn navigator Flt Lt Eric Norman FOINETTE was shot down in on the night of Feb 25, 1942.
I have no idea what the (apparently Merlin-powered) Wellington's serial number was but, from a tiny hand-written note, the fuselage code letters were either PH-C or PH-L (the handwriting is unclear).
    Anyone know for sure?
    Many thanks in advance.
    Tom

Many thanks for the speedy reply, Jagan.
Interestingly, the details do not mention flak or fighters and I am told that Flt Lt Foinette thought the aircraft had been hit, damaging the engine and, with the realisation they they could not reach home, caused the skipper to head for Sweden. When it became apparent that they couldn't make Sweden either, they decided to parachute down to the snow-covered landscape they saw below them. Which suggests the aircraft piled in from height, rather than made a forced landing. Some bits of this aircraft still survive.
    Thanks again.

    Hi Tom,

If you google ‘Airwar over Denmark’ and look by the date of the crash 26 February 1942 you will be able to read their story there are a number of crash photos and crew photos.

    Cheers,

    John.

    John,
Thanks for that tip. The direct link is here:

Note PH-C is stated to be the code letters.
