Default 220 Squadron ORB, Records of Events, Ranks missing for aircrew

I note the following ORB Records summary where the ranks of are absent for quite a few of the aircrew:

Is there a particular reason for this? Oversight or "civilians" aboard? Note you can preview the record without having to download it.

Maybe it simply indicates “ditto” to the airman’s rank shown above them. F/Sgt, or whatever.

Normal Fortress crew size in 1943 was eight. Without checking more entries, F. Fitzgibbins was a regular squadron crew member for sure so I think Ian is correct.

If you checked crew names within a month of these entries you should find them repeating with the same captain, confirming they were not civilians.

Well, whatever the reason, I’ve not observed this before and I’ve examined countless Bomber Command ORBs. It seems the squadron records keepers had abandoned the practice later on:

I’ve not examined a lot of Coastal Command ORB’s. I was assisting a colleague on his search.

    Jim:

Would be happy to help if your colleague has any other questions related to 220 Squadron during WWII.

That would be excellent, Rob. He’s the author of this thread here:

I managed to find his uncle, F/S R. Reeves in the 220 Squadron ORB. You may have something to add.
