    Dom Thom POW

    www.mikekemble.com/ww2/colditz.html -

    20. 11 May 1943

After Mairesse-Lebrun's escape from the park, prisoners in solitary confinement took their exercise on the northwest terrace. During his walk on this day, Flight-Lieut. Don Thom of the Royal Canadian Air Force suddenly leapt over the terrace's balustrade and grabbed a hold of the crossbars in the windows of the guardroom. He dropped to the bars of a lower window, which he held for a moment before dropping to the ground. As the guards opened fire on him, he got over a barbed-wire curtain and ran into the woods before being stopped by coils of wire. Security officer Reinhold Eggers called it "the maddest attempt of all."

    Hi Dave,

Thank you for clearing up the details of Masterson and a Harvard.

Can we now all agree that -

K9986 of 66 Sqdn was that lost on the 6th Sept 39, in which P/O. D.G.B. Patton was killed.

That Don Thom RCAF was the pilot of the 74 Sqdn a/c K9868, that force landed in France on 21st Nov 39 . [ F/Lt. D.S.Thom P2880 a Hurricane of 1 Sqdn Shot down by AA on 25th May 40 Thom POW ]

And that K9968 of 602 Sqdn was lost on the 31st Nov 39 pilot to be yet named ?
I could find only one name in the CWGC for the 31st Dec 39 but he was not a pilot.

Firstly November only has 30 days! Also I think we can't be sure of date for the loss of K9968 -

    Hello Paul,

Well, I think that we must all have missed the "thirty days hath-" well made.
So yes, that now leaves the loss date and pilot's name for K9968 of 602 Sqdn an open question still.

    All the best
    Alex
