    Default Spitfire X4818, loss 14/7/43

Quick one, does anyone know who the pilot was in Spitfire X4818, 53 OTU when it was accidentally shot down by another Spitfire whilst on air to air gunnery practice. X4818 came down near Goole but the pilot baled out and landed in the Humber and was sadly drowned.

Can anyone put a name to him please ?

    Thanks, Rich Allenby

    Rich,
Was the body recovered ? I've unaccounted for on this date: W/O George W. MYERS - MiD - 103898, commemorated on Panel 127 of the Runnymede Memorial.
    Regards,
    Henk.

According to CWGC Myres was F/O and was in 2828 Squadron, RAF Regiment.

    "2828 Squadron

Formed as No 828 Squadron at Honeybourne on 19 December 1941, having been unnumbered from the previous April. On 1 February 1942 all RAF Regiment Squadrons had 2000 added to their numbers. The squadron converted to the Light Anti Aircraft role in May 1943 and disbanded in August 1945. During the anti-Diver operations of 1944 it was based at Detling."

Wynn in MoboB has Johnson death on 4th July 1943 - As has the BoB Histircal Society Web Site Honour Roll - CWGC has 14 July 1943 - Date confusion probably reason why circumstances of his death have been a mystery until now
