    Default A.C.G. Baldwin

The above named airman (Alfred Charles Gordon, born in England 1902) joined the RAF in 1919 as an airman and appears to have left the RAF in 1939 to join the RNZAF as a sergeant in the technical trades. It is possible that he may have served in India prior to joining the RNZAF. I have looked in National Archives UK and I don't have access to Find My Past. Is anyone able to help with his RAF service record.
    Regards, Terry

    Terry

FMP has his marriage in the British India Office Marriages index. He married Florence Gladys May Dunlop in September 1929, and his place of residence is given as Karachi, and his occupation as L.A.C. Royal Air Force.

He was awarded the M.B.E. in 1953: https://www.aucklandmuseum.com/war-m.../record/193279

    From the above link:

'Born West Ham, London England, died Wellington. Joined as apprentice in March 1919. Commissioned ex in 1940 to establish Air Repair depots. Served in RNZAF until 1 7.1954.'

    Hello,

    A suggestion.

Get hold of a copy of:

The Flying Doctor:The Adventures of a Bush Pilot, Hunter and Backcountry Doctor.
    Baldwin, Dave.
    Auckland:Random House,2016.

Dr Dave Baldwin, was one of Alfred Charles Gordon "Stan" Baldwin's children (he had four children by the NZ marriage alone!) He recounts some details of his father's life, and death*, as well as recording his own remarkable life. Dave Baldwin's mother, Olive "Granny" Baldwin (nee Garraway), was quite a woman.

    * His demise was mercifully quick when it came. He had a fall and fractured his hip, and while in hospital he developed pneumonia and died painlessly.

    Terry,
Baldwin was posted to India for the Aircraft Depot, Karachi 31 Dec 26
And posted to Home Establishment for Henlow, 8 Nov 29
I'll email you a copy of the few papers relating to his RAF postings that survive on his RNZAF file.
    Cheers,
    Errol
