I am researching RAF Lossiemouth - 20 OTU - and came across this site which is a credit to all involved. The database has an error with the aircraft details for the above individual. From 20 OTU ORB,
28 May 1942. Wellington Z8852 overshot RAF Elgin while heavy sleet falling and crashed on hills with fire on impact. R/85669 Sgt McLennan died after admission to hospital.
The database has him having been killed in wellington Z8853 which is incorrect. It is also incorrect on the IBCC losses database. Hope this is of use to researchers.

Hello Peter
Welcome to the Forum.
Just to add, his R.C.A.F. Service Records on ancestry.co.uk has a Form 551 which confusingly records the serial as L8852 (a Blenheim serial number, so presumably meant to be Z8852?).
The Form records that the accident happened at 02.20 hours, 1 mile east of R.A.F. Elgin. He was removed to Gray's Hospital, Elgin, where he was treated but died of his injuries at 16.45 the same day.
Regards
Simon

Researching R.A.F. personnel from the North East of England
Sgt McLennan died in hospital following the crash of Wellington Z8852 at Fodda Bridge, Elgin. The Forms 412 and 765c frequently contain errors.
Alan.
Peter (and other posters),
Thanks for the input. I have amended the entry to show Z8852 as the aircraft involved:
http://www.rafcommands.com/database/...php?uniq=Z8852
Note that his surname was McClennan.
Regards,
Andy
