Hi Keith
From Air Britain serials. AM577 "crashed on delivery flight".....no place or date
AM260. w/o Ayr 14.8.41
cheers Peter
On p246 of 'Ocean Bridge', Christie refers to the crash landing of a Hudson at Port Ellen airfield, Isle of Islay, Scotland, on 14 June 1941. It was very short of fuel after 12 hours in the air - presumably from Gander. Pilot was Capt Alton C Earle, who died in the crash of Liberator AM260 on 14 August 1941. He was accompanied by P/O Victor John Hall (J/4702), who, I think, died in Beaufort L9953 of 5(C) OTU on 9 August 1941.
I am trying to establish which Hudson this was and if it was written-off. By a process of elimination, I believe it could have been T9450, AM577 or AM849. I wonder if anyone has any idea please?

Third crew member was a radio operator by the surname of Arbulet, most likely a civilian as no rank is given in the Gander Watch Log.
They departed Gander at 22:09 GMT and force-landed at Port Ellen "due to shortage of fuel" at 11:54. Original ETA at Prestwick at was 10:03. Watch Log notes "flaps and undercarriage damaged".
