    Default Beaufighter crash

At 1.15am on 18 July 1944 a Beaufighter crashed into a house in the village of Dundrennan, near Kirkcudbright in Dumfriesshire, killing the crew and four civilians in the house.

Does anyone know the serial of the aircraft, its unit and the names of the crew?

    Default Beaufighter 18 July 1944

    Ian

This was Beaufighter XI JL893 of 9(C)OTU Carlisle. Both crew were killed: pilot 1459184 Sgt E M Young RAFVR (21) - commemorated at Leeds (Lawns Wood) Crematorium and navigator, 1600998 F/S H A Wiles RAFVR (21) buried Aldershot Civil Cemetery. The 55 ASR MCU Kircudbright ORB records that they received a crash call at 01:40 and that a party was sent out in a truck. They found the a/c on fire, 2 crew and 4 civilians dead. I have a note from a local history website that the deceased family are buried in Rerrick Graveyard, however, I have no record of their identities nor of the cause of the crash.

Hut Six gives 649 casualties for 18th July 1944 - So specfic checking might reveal the specific civilian names a well

    http://www.hut-six.co.uk/cgi-bin/search39-47.php

However using date 18th July 1944 and Dundrennan reveals the sad fact that 4 Civilians from the family were killed (Mum, dad and 2 kids)

    HAMILTON, HENRY aged 8
HAMILTON, JAMES FRANCIS GRAHAM age 35
    HAMILTON, AGNES RAE aged 8
    HAMILTON, GEORGINA RAE aged 31

    Amrit beat me to it!
