Default period of enlistment / wing brevet

    hello

Using the information kindly provided by Dennis Burke in the other section of the board at
    http://www.rafcommands.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2723

I'm now trying to find more details about the period when Michael Howard SHELTON joined the R.A.F.. His enlistment number was 1324437. I presumed it was in late 1941 or early 1942, but in "Aces High volume 2", the batch of NCO/airmen number from 1300001 to 1360000 : UK enlistments, various centres, ranges from June 1940 to February 1941. Perhaps a forumite has someone in his papers with a close enlistment number.

The second question is about the flying brevet. "Mike" Shelton was commissioned in 1943, but several members of his course were commissioned earlier. The earliest commissions are all gazetted on Gazette issue 35741 published on 9th October 1942 (thanks again Dennis). They are
    - Hugh Blair McCREADY, officer number 129544, no enlistment number,
    - Raphael Raymund McNAIR-TAYLOR, officer number 127884, enlistment number 658001
    - Charles George LAWRENCE, officer number 127885, enlistment number 1385410.

The following commissions were gazetted on 23rd October 1942.

I presume the commissions were given with effect from the date the pupil pilot received his flying brevet. Can someone confirm this, as it would help me to narrow down my search for details about "Mike" SHELTON ?

    TIA

    Joss

    Joss,

    I have the following :-

    1332018 enlisted 1-1941
    1333300 enlisted 2-1941

Of course it could have taken a number of months before they were called up !

    +1385264 enlisted 20-2-1941

The number 658001 is for an Army transfer man who joined the RAF around 6-1941 onwards !

    hello,

Thanks Mark. It seems "Mike" SHELTON joined in late 1940, so much earlier than I thought. I should try to apply for his service record at PMA, as there's no next-of-kin since 1961.

    Cheers

    Joss
