Default AVM Darwin - RAF Italy

    Hello All,

Iīm looking for info about AVM Darwin (exact name is not confirmed) who was probably assigned at AHQ in Italy,1945-47. I have note from one airmanīs memories that he was replaced in his assignment by ACdre Rankin.

    TIA

    Hi Pavel,

I was there, but without success. Some bios are uncomplete in this period.

    Could it not be Darvall?

He was an AVM and AOC Air HQ Italy during that period

I have checked through the LG and the Times and there doesn't appear to be any AVM Darwin or Dervin or Darvin etc

    Hello Amrit,

sometimes veteranīs memories must be verified ... , I have checked both sources for name AVM Darwin too, but with same result. AVm Darvall was my favourite person too.
I think AVM Darvall could be right person.

thank you very much for your idea

    Default Darwin ?

    Hello Milan

"They flew Hurricanes" by Adrian Stewart mentions a Wing Commander Darwin in connection with a Hurricane Wing (213 and 238 Squadrons) in the Western Desert in November 1942 in a quote from "Fight for the Sky: True stories of wartime fighter pilots" by Bruce Barrymore Halpenny. This is an extensive report which names him twice as "Wingco Darwin"

So as the Wing would presumably have moved to Italy (albeit most likely with Spitfires) could this be the same person who has become an AVM at AHQ Italy in 1945 (nice quick promotion if it is him!!)

    Hope this helps?
