    Hi All

Just been comparing some of the previous answers with what I've dug up and whilst I've agreed with most the following is incorrect
Fg.Off WADDELL, Robert Cassells, killed 18.8.38, (Hardy K4517)

K4517 was a Demon of 64 Sqn SOC 3/1/38 after forced landing near Martlesham Heath

Waddell was killed in an aircraft of No 6 Sqn, I have not yet identified.

Further to my last posting, I am beginning to add my work in progress on to my website www.rafweb.org, which initially wil cover 1918 - 1939, but by th eend of today shoulfd be up to 1924.

Default Raf Officer Deaths- P/o Waddell 18.8.38

    Hi all,

My apolgies for supplying incorrect information. It was a combination of muddling two lines in my database of Hardy losses, and a typo.

I believe the aircraft in which P/O Waddell and AC1 Richard Jennings were killed was Hardy K5920., this is listed in A-B “K serials” as “6 squadron, crashed and SOC 18.8.38”.

I also believe the 6 squadron aircraft lost on 26.8.38 was Hardy K4317, shown in A-B “K serials” as “6 Sq. Crashed 26.8.38”. This would line up with the deaths of F/O May and AC1 Terence Bagge. The note in my posting of 1st January for this accident “aircraft accident in India” should be deleted in favour of “Tulkaren Palestine”.

    Hi Dave

I agree with you regarding Bagge and May.

I didn't associate Waddell with K5920 as my copy of the 'K-file' does not indicate anyone being killed and I have them being killed the following day (report in 'Flight', I haven't currently got the relevant pages of the 1938 AFL), but it seems likely.

The March 1938 AFL shows Waddell posted to 6 Sqn 18 Feb 36 and May on 10 Apr 37, which would seem to confirm the 6 Sqn connections for the above deaths.

Plt Off Carleton Allenby Ross of No.2 Flying Training School RAF Brize Norton Oxford (and from Halifax Nova Scotia) Killed 16 Feb 39 when the aircraft he was flying crashed in a field at Bampton Oxfordshire.

Can anyone identify the serial of this aircraft

He is also incorrectly listed in 'They Shall Not Grow Old' as he died before ww2 broke out- as Addenum #2 points out

    Default P/o Carleton Allenby Ross

    Hi Paul,

Whilst I do not have definite proof of a connection, from the A-B K file, Audax K7366 is listed as with 2FTS "Dived into ground at night at Clanfield" on 16.2.39

    Default Pre-WW2 losses

    Regarding this post

MOULD, Gordon Edward, Sergeant Pilot - 23 August 1935. Machine dived into sea during practice bombing, Christchurch Bay. Reported in Aeroplane, 18 September 1935. Lieutenant-Commander Guy Willoughby, RN (F/L, RAF) reported he was leading three aircraft of which Mould's was the third. They dived from about 12,000 feet at 270 mph and released their bombs at about 1,500 feet over a fast armoured motor launch which acted as target. The witness said that having completed his dive he turned to see where bomb had fallen and saw Mould's machine go straight into water. Verdict returned of "Dead by misadventure", the jury adding, "This promising young man died while performing a hazardous but necessary duty."

Can anyone confirm what time of aircraft crashed and the serial number?

    Many thanks
