    Default 51 Sqn history

    Dear all

Can anyone tell me if there is a published history of 51 Sqn please? I am actually interested in any histories that might be available of Whitley Sqns including 77, 78, 58, 166, 1 and 10 Sqns.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi
I don't know about 51 Sqn but are you aware of "the Whitley Boys" by G L "Larry" Donnelly published by Air Research?

Thanks Dick - yes I have a copy. I did find a 51 sqn history on amazon after I posted this message - typical!

    Thanks for replying.

Snaith Days is a history of 51 Sqn but doesn't cover Whitleys unforunately. I'm not aware of another that does. Similarly Gordons days with Shiney 10 is based in 1944.

    Hi

IVe got an interest in 51 sqn and i know there is a memorial group dedicated to the sqn who looks after the memorial garden at the war time base RAF Snaith.

    details found here, http://www.51squadron.com/

one of the Secretarys, Mrs. Renee Ounsley has published a few books based on veteran stories. I cant remember any whitley stories of the top of my head.

a good place to start if you want to contact possible veterans.

i appreciate this maybe the wrong time period for you but see what you think.

    cheers neil

    Default 51 Sqn

    Hi Elliott

Has Chris Ward covered 51 Sqn in his series of Squadron Histories (which basically cover wartime ops records)?

Might be worth looking into. They only cost about ten quid I think, A4 wire-bound. Very good value. Used to be able to get them via Midland Counties. I don't know how many they might still have in stock.
