    Default Liberator EV878

Geoff's search engine for that date and squadron gives:
    001 DUNN, JT 1386069 12/08/1944
    002 EGLEN, JD 169690 12/08/1944
    003 KNILL, WJ 751925 12/08/1944
    004 LINDSAY, EW 74707 12/08/1944
    005 PHILLIPS, JF 575265 12/08/1944
    006 RUMLEY, CW 156907 12/08/1944
    007 STEBBINGS, JFG 1615921 12/08/1944

Popping these into google i.e. Stebbings, knill and Eglen, find you this:
    http://www.stmawgan.org.uk/BoR/1944.htm

    Which lists for this date:
    12/08/44 Sqn Ldr Lindsey Edward W * 74707 224 Sqn
    12/08/44 Fg Off Andrews William * NZ421492 224 Sqn

    12/08/44 Fg Off Knill William J * 751925 224 Sqn
    12/08/44 Fg Off Rumley Cyril W * 156907 224 Sqn
    12/08/44 FS Cato Reginald H * A420443 224 Sqn
    12/08/44 FS Phillips John F * 575265 224 Sqn
    12/08/44 Sgt Dunn Jack T * 1386069 224 Sqn 1
    12/08/44 Sgt Stebbings John F G * 1615921 224 Sqn

Going to the Australian National archives:
Gives for the two RAAF men:

CRAINE, Alexander Robert - (Flying Officer); Service Number - 404496; File type - Casualty - Repatriation; Aircraft - Liberator EV 878; Place - La Rochelle, France; Date - 12 August 1944

And that file is digitised so you can read that.

CATO, Reginald Hubert - (Flight Sergeant); Service Number - 420443; File type - Casualty - Repatriation; Aircraft - Liberator EV 878; Place - Bay of Biscay; Date - 12 August 1944
    Not digitised.

And finally for William Andrew RNZAF
    http://muse.aucklandmuseum.com/databases/Cenotaph/RecordDetail.aspx?OriginalID=20424&SearchID=126399 7&Ordinal=4

"Took off in the evening from St Eval, Cornwall on board a Liberator GRVIE878/C on an anti U boat patrol. While over the Bay of Biscay, about 25 miles off Pointe de Penmarc'h blew up when fired on in error by the destroyer HMS Onslow."

Read the Australian files for further deatails, i hav enot yet.

    regards
