    Default 57372 F/O A.J WALKER Died 31/12/1947 61 Sqn ?

I have the details of 57372 F/o Arthur John WALKER Died 31/12/1947 Age 33. Buried Hannover CWGC unit 61 Squadron.

The RAF Overseas War Deaths lists his unit as 61 (R) Squadron.
Checking up further on Walker his NCO number was 516699 a pre war enlistment. He was commissioned into the RAF Regiment as Pilot Officer 57372 - 29/8/1945.

Can anyone help, was he really with 61 Squadron or the RAF Regiment ?

    TIA

    Default F/O A. J. Walker

    G'day Mark

My guess is the R.A.F. Regiment.

No. 2829 Squadron was re-numbered No. 61 Squadron on the 21st of August 1947 at Lübeck, Germany.

No. 61 (B) Squadron was an Avro Lincoln B. Mk. II unit based at R.A.F. Station Waddington, Lincolnshire but was detached to R.A.F. Station Hemswell, Lincolnshire from circa July 1947 until circa December 1947.

    Cheers...Chris

EDIT - I think I'm getting old - I seem to be repeating what has already been posted. Sorry

I wonder how much confusion has been caused by these squadron numbers !
