You are right about the wheel coming from a Hurricane - I make it a Hurricane II. You won't find the ID of the aircraft from the wheel i'm afraid, unless the serial was painted on it but I have never seen that with an aircraft wheel before.

AH8213 (note) used on first 901 production Hurricane I, then Hurricane II and IV. As per AP1086.

I agree with w_p, you will be unlikely to track down the actual a/c that this wheel was fitted to, unless it has some known history, e.g. salvaged by farmer from wrecked Hurricane in one of his fields, etc.

    Regards!

    Hi Chris,

as I know from my own experience from serioal or APxxx number you can find - if you are lucky - the aircraft type.
I have also several parts like altimeter or cine-camera gun but with these parts it is more difficult as they were used in several types.
With the wheel it can be much simpler but as Alan wrotes - quite impossible to find the particular aircraft unless you found it on the spot of crash of known plane

Gentlemen I thank you for your time & effort.

I got theWheel from a local farmer where Hurricane N2522 crashed in Northumberland.

I have located the site also & intend to place a memorial to the Pilot. But as you may have seen on an earlier posting by me ref this site (about 2 weeks ago)
I have stummbled on a small hitch
ie: In D waltons book it has the crash as 23/04/1941
In P clarks book it has it as 24/04/1941
    CWGC have it as 25/04/1941

The pilot was P/O Martin Walter Rivers, 55 OTU, RAF Ouston

Have you tried tracking down a copy of his death certificate? That might sort the dates out.

The delay in the CWGC date could mean the pilot died of his wounds.

The death certificate is a very good idea.
