In Ian Carter's "Fighter Command 1939-45 " on page 35 the bottom picture is of the remains of a Spitfire being looked over by German troops, at low tide 4 or 5th June 1940 (?) is the date given in the caption .
There are three ships that lie close by,one with two funnels, one with what looks like canvase covers over the deck areas, there is in the far distance left of picture what could either be another ship or even distant buildings?

Does anyone have any idea as to the identity of this Spitfire. A photo reference "HU 83539" is given and this is I beleive Imperial War Museum ref.
