    Default Hurricane R4115 History

Checking out some details today on this aircraft which crashed at RAF Milfield.

Was it an aircraft used by D. Baders Sqn before being used at an OTU?

    cheers

According to Mason: formerly of 242 and 111 Squadrons.

    cheers for that,

was this aircraft anything particular? it seems to have been used as a gate guardian in 242 sqn colours - well a copy of this particular one.

No idea about that. Mason gives it as crashed at 'Sleinsford'. Local author Derek Walton has it as crashed at 'Sleinsfield' attempting a forced landing, pilot Sgt Hartley, killed. Both suffer typos: place is 'Slainsfield' a former mining community about mile north of Ford, some 3 miles north of Milfield airfield.

    Best Wishes.

    Hi Alex,
'The Hawker Hurricane': Francis K. Mason, 2001. Page228, 8th entry from bottom. 'The Hawker Hurricane': Francis K. Mason, 1962 has it only as 111 Squadron; page 156. Judging by the persistent typo they all originate from one source.

    Best Wishes.
