    Default WAAF MID Records

Have been asked by a friend to try and trace any record that might exist of her late WAAF mother being Mentioned in Dispatches.
The lady in question was AC1 Lilian Clark and it is believed that the MID was announced on June 8, 1944.
Unfortunately we don't know anything about the reason why Lilian was MID, but think she was based at Metheringham at the time.
Can anyone tell me where to find more?
    Thanks,
    Tom

Tom, This may be your person, citations were never published for m.i.d., I think, as a daughter, your friend maybe able to apply for her mother's service record:
    Air Ministry, 8th June, 1944.
The KING has been graciously pleased to give orders for the publication of the names of the following personnel who have been mentioned in despatches: .
    Aircraft-women 1st Class.
    2037732 L. B. CLARK.
Supplement (LG 36544 dated 8 Jun 44) to LG dated 2 Jun 44
    Regards, Terry

    Default Metheringham airfield

Also try contacting Peter Scoley at Metheringham airfield

They have a small (but good) museum there.

    Default Lilian Clark

    Hi Terry,
Yes, that seems pretty conclusive as I am told her middle name was Bianchi - well done!
Didn't realise that citations were not published for MIDs...

Thanks also to Peter; will drop Pete Scoley a line and see what he comes up with.

    Hi Tom,

There may be something in one of the AIR2 files of Recommendations for Awards at the National Archives at Kew. Hugh is the expert at knowing which might be a likely file to look in. It might be worth while sending him a PM.

    Regards,

    Ann

Unless this servicewoman's Mention was as the result of a downgrading of a higher award, it is a sure cert that there will be no trace of her recommendation at Kew.
