    Default D.F.C. Club of Belgium

I just found this article in Flight magazine (27 November 1953) and wondered if anyone knows anything more about who the members were etc?

    Belgian D.F.Cs Foregather
THIRTY-SIX of the 47 active members of the D.F.C. Club of Belgium attended the recent dinner held at Melsbroek Airport, Brussels. The club's members, all of Belgian nationality and holders of the D.F.C. and other British awards, meet three times a year, the reunions being organized in turn by the three membership groups—those who remained in the Belgian Air Force, those who joined Sabena (Belgian Air Lines) and those who entered other civil occupations. The Melsbroek dinner was organized by the Sabena group, and the news of it reaches us from Captain L. W. Thorne, D.F.C., G.M., who, as an Englishman flying for Sabena, is an honorary member.

    cheers

    Default Belgian DFC Recipients

    Amrit

Major Gerrard Adriane Pierre GREINDL [DFC] B.04023 SAAF was a Belgian National attached to 31 Squadron SAAF .Operations on 13/14 August & 16/17 August 1944 Warsaw airlift as well as many other missions .

My RAAF x 31 SAAF father flew with him at times but not on the Warsaw trips.[flying with another pilot to Warsaw]

He left the sqdn holding rank of Lt /Col. in October 1944 after becoming "tour expired " .He survived the war but was killed in 1947 while piloting a Sabena Airways Lockheed aircraft which crashed in the Belgian Congo.

From Graham du Toit's "Heroism Beyond Praise-Warsaw". I have also spoken to a former 31 SAAF man who remembered him.

    Hi Serge

I have been having some difficulty with a Leleu. I note you have yours as an Air Gunner. The man I am trying to track is Andre Omer Leleu who was apparently awarded a DFC but my man was a Navigator. Do you have a Service No. for your Leleu as I can't find mine in the LG (Service No. 183385) with any award

    Cheers

    Eddie

Thank you everyone for that valuable information.

Eddie, your Leleu is not listed in Honor the Air Forces for either a DFC or DFM. There is only one Leleu in there.

    Hi Eddie,

P/O "Andy" Leleu, D.F.C. (183385) was a navigator in the 158 Squadron. He was a member of the F/O Leslie Fulker crew (D.F.C., R.N.Z.A.F.). On 12/9/1944 their Halifax III NP-Y/HX329 was hit by Flak during a daylight mission against Gelsenkirchen and exploded. Leleu was thrown away and was the sole survivor. Miraculously his parachute opened when he was unconscious. He was POW at Stalag Luft 1 and repatriated by an USAAF B-17 on 12/5/1945 from Barth aerodrome and landed at Ford. This mission was his 30th with a total flying hours of 253.50 h.

    Regards.

    Hi

I have quite a bit on Andy Leleu but can't unravel the mystery of whether or not he was awarded the DFC.
He indicates this is the case on documents I have, but I can't find any official reference to it.

    Cheers

    Eddie
