    Default P/O D Payne & F Waters 8 Jan 1940

These two are in my local cemetry. Does anybody have any information on them. They both appear to have died the same day. Possibly from RAF Andover which is nearby.

    636421 Aircraftman 2nd Cl F Waters RAF Died 8 Jan 1940 aged 19
Pilot Officer D L Payne Pilot RAF Died 8 Jan 1940

    Many thanks for your help

    Hi Andy
Payne's death is registered at Blandford,Dorset 1st qtr 1940. I couldn't find Waters, which could mean that he died in Scotland or N Ireland. It wouldn't be unusual for bodies to have been brought "home" for burial. Do you know if either of them were local to your area? CWGC records Water's N-O-K as being from Kent

    Dick,
I've PAYNE and WATERS both on Blenheim IV of #2 SAC, serial L4854, crashed 10 miles SW of Salisbury, Wiltshire. Could this be correct for Payne's death registration at Blandford, Dorset ?
    Regards,
    Henk.

Henk, Blandford is about 25m SW of Salisbury, but its admin area extends to include the village of Sixpenny Handley, which is about 10m SW of Salisbury. So aomewhere in that area.

    Hi Henk
Blandford would be right for a death 10 mls or so SW of Salisbury. Warner records AC2 L Dale ,F Waters and J Hunt as passengers also killed but apart from Payne none of them is in the Register and only Waters comes on CWGC with D-o-D 8/1/40

Also have KERR on Audax K5151; GRATTON still on the 'unaccounted' list.

    Henk.
