can anybody confirm me that there was such a unit existing there in 1947-1951?
Or was there any other similar unit?

Hi Pavel,

Weston, Ontario is very close to Downsview, site of de Havilland Canada and RCAF Station Downsview. Both are part of Toronto today. The present boundaries are a little vague, but I think a Torontonian today might say Downsview is in the Weston neighbourhood.

1 Supply Depot was located in Weston in the 1950s (and maybe earlier), and was a major logistics facility for the RCAF in central Canada by then. It moved to Montreal in the 1960s. I think it was the forerunner of No. 25 CFSD, still there a few years ago. There was a 1 SD badge on sale on E-Bay a little while ago.

There was an ITS at Mountain View in 1947, don't have any more information. By then it may have been the only one left in the RCAF, and may not have had a number.

Hopefully Dakota has more info on No. 1 SD and the ITS.

No. 1 Equipment Depot sat on 37 acres at Queens Quay on the eastern side of Yonge Street. There were other buildings in Toronto that were also used as part of No. 1 E.D.

Between the end of the war and circa 1946, R.C.A.F. personnel and civilian employees started to relocate to the former Massey-Harris plant in Weston which would be the new site of No. 1 Equipment Depot.

No. 1 Equipment Depot was re-designated No. 1 Supply Depot in April 1948. The headquarters was moved to R.C.A.F. Station Downsview in 1954. The Weston site subsequently became No. 1 Supply Depot Detachment.

The R.C.A.F.'s No. 1 Supply Depot at R.C.A.F. Station Downview was a massive building.
