    Default funerals on wednesday

    hello,

The funerals of George JASPIS, D.F.C. will take place in Saint Aubin church in Opprebais, on wednesday, 10:30 AM.

I met him many times over the last ten years during 609 Squadron association reunion. Last time was a year ago for an informal ceremony for his former pal "Balbo" Roelandt, killed in action in Normandy in august 1944.

I was privileged to have him unveil a plaque for another 609 Squadron pilot, Flying Officer Mike SHELTON, KIA 29th february 1944, at Paillencourt near Cambrai. Of the nine pilots who flew that mission, George was the last still alive in february 2004, and one of the very few to have known SHELTON. Mark CRAME who is also a member of the board took some pictures of the unveiling and they were on the flypast forum for a while. I don't know if they are still somewhere in the net.

A great man, we will miss him.

    RIP

    Joss
