Just to add that Irvine, and the two others, seems to have been the first casualty of 106 Squadron in the beginning of this long war .

    Gents
according to the 49 Sqn association web site,
the pilot was Sgt E Marshall
    2nd pilot/Nav was P/O J M D Irvine

In D Waltons book Irvine is recorded as Observer.

CWGC record both Humphry & Potts 21.12.1939

    we are getting there

    Thanks
    Chris

Are we sure Irvine was on this aircraft? The newspaper report does not mention him, both Harry Molye and Chorley doubt it as well!

P1336 is the Hampden you are looking for; Irvine, Collingham & Firth fatalities, victims of the Coventry balloons.

It is proberble that this is the same Irvine (as the Covenrty incident was a year later).

So far I have 2 respected sources for & 2 against.

Let us not slip away from the original request.

I require the service number & age of Sgt Marshall (1939)

    we are doing well.
    thanks

I have just had information that P/O Irvine was with 49 Sqn from 49 sqn history.

    P/O J M D Irvine 39988 age 21.
