    Default 221 Squadron

My Dad was an RAFVR AG who completed a tour with 34 then 31 Squadron SAAF in Mar '45 , then transfered to Egypt, commissioned and posted to 221 Squadron.

From records I can trace, 221 was equipped with Wellingtons however in the one conversation I had with Dad on his brief time (Mar - Aug '45???)with 221 he was adamant that they had Warwicks - can any one confirm this.

Also would 221 have had a detachment to Khartoum around this time?

    Thanks in advance

Acording to 'RAF Squadrons' - Jefford. 221 Squadron reformed on 21 November 1940 with the Wellington which served with the squadron throughout the war. At the time you mention 221 Squadron were operating with the Wellington XIII and from 31 March 1944 they were at Grottaglie with a detachment at Foggia Italy, on 23 October 1944 they went to Kalamaki / Hassani, Greece and on 8 April to Idku Egypt with detachments at Aqir near Tel Aviv, El Adem , Benina, Libya
they were disbanded on 21 August 1945.

No mention of the Warwick serving with 221 Squadron

    Peter.
