    Default Service number used twice

A puzzle but I hoped someone might have an explanation ?
Were Australian Military Forces service numbers re-used between the Australian Army & Airforce ?

I was re-looking at my father's digitalised records on the National Archives of Australia [NAA] site .He was F/O T R Millar RAAF, SERVICE number 422612, born 1916.He has 2 entries. He enlisted in the RAAF May 1942.

    Between the 2 entries is a Dillworth E J S , ARMY number 422612 , born 1907. He joined the 18th AFA brigade on 4.4.31 & was discharged on 8.7.31.

Presumably his number then became free, even though it was an Army number at the time ?

The RAAF and Australian army service numbers would probably be independent of each other, like in Britain, and so the match. One sometimes finds an RAF man and army man with the same number in the LG, during the same time period.

Thanks for the reply .It must have been confusing having the same service number, even if Army & Airforce.
