    Default 106 Sqd

I am researching my Great Uncle who served at 106 sqd and died 2/12/43. His name was Malcolm Sheryn.

I am short on leads and wondered if anyone might be able to help?

Hi Chris, i am presuming you don't have the basics?

Lancaster ED874 of 106 Sqn. Op to Berlin. Took off from Metherington at 1640. Crashed at Lindenburg a small town some 14 km NE from the centre of Berlin and on the main autobahn to Bernau.

all killed. Your Uncle had been mentioned in Dispatches also and you can check out the london gazette for the date he was awarded that.

    Hi Chris and Tom
I would suggest that Chorley Vol 4 has a typo and the departure airfield should be Metheringham. From Jefford-RAF Squadrons, 106 were based at Metheringham from Nov 1943 until they were disbanded in Feb 1946.
    Regards

    Chris,

His service number indicates he enlisted around September 1938 as regular RAF. See :-
622688 enlisted 9-1938 Electrician. At some time he must of volunteered for aircrew duty. Maybe when the position of Flight Engineer was introduced in 1942 for the new four engined heavy bombers !
