    Default Clipped by a night-fighter and crashed-1 Sep 43

419 Sqn Halifax II JD270 coded VR-P failed to return after being clipped on the port wing over Berlin by a single-engine night-fighter and crashed out of control in the target area.

Can anyone tell me if there is a corresponding loss for the nightfighter? It was apparently a very busy night, so it may be hard to distinguish which a/c it was.

    Thanks.

Thanks Pete for that pointer. I am also searching in the other forums for this, I was just hoping someone else here had also looked into this crash, which involved several survivors - not my guy unfortunately. I will consult Ross's PoW list too.

This aircraft crashed well south west of Berlin in the Magdeburg area. I have not figured out who collided with it yet.

Thanks Richard. What source are you using, Chorley? The (unreliable) one I saw said the incident happened over the target, which in this case was indicated as Berlin.

The source is from a record in Ottawa. This aircraft crashed in the Wernigerode forest, 3 kms south west of Wernigerode near a small town called Hasserode. I do not have a time though.

I realize that this is an extremely old thread, but the aircraft in question was my Grandfather's. If anyone has any updated information, please send it to: therealericscharf@gmail.com.

    Thank you!
