    Default DFC Citations Request

Can anyone help with finding DFC citations for two men on the same 106 squadron Crew?

    F/O Victor Lane Cole 129633

    F/O Harold Johnson 135036

They were operating with 106 between 1943 and 1944.

    Thanks for your help,

    Sam

    Default DFC citation supplied

COLE, Victor Lane, F/O (129633, RAFVR*) - No.106 Squadron - Distinguished Flying Cross - awarded as per London Gazette dated 11 February 1944. Citation from Air Ministry Bulletin 12872.

"Flying Officer Cole has completed numerous sorties, including five against Berlin and four against Hamburg. As captain of aircraft his energy, skill and determination have been outstanding. He has always set a fine example of keenness and cheerful confidence to his crew. On one occasion during an attack on Berlin, this officer's aircraft was engaged by an enemy fighter but with coolness and skilful airmanship he enabled his gunner to shoot it down."

No luck with Johnson; his recommendation is most likely at Kew (Air 2/9339 most likely, Air 2/9156 possibly).

Many thanks to you both for the information. I've tried the London Gazette search facility with out success in the past, but that may be down to the vagaries of my computer. I'll try again.

    Best wishes,

    Sam

Re. your request of 2009 which has just been brought to my attention it may be of interest to you that Harold ` Johnnie` Johnson is now living in East Anglia and recently appeared on the Channel 5 programme ` Heroes of the Skies`
