    Default Unit at Mostyn ?

Was there a wartime air force unit such as a Reception Centre at Mostyn (United Kingdom, probably Wales) ?

    Hi Hugh,

Mostyn or anything like Most... is not listed in RAF Training and Support Unit by R. Sturvivant.

Mostyn (if it is the same one, and I can't find another in my gazeteer) is in Flintshire, Wales, about four miles from where I am typing this. I've never heard of any RAF establishment here but that doesn't mean there wasn't one. There was an air-ground firing range at Talacre about three miles north of Mostyn, used by the Hawarden and Rednal OTUs amongst others. There could be a connection.

Hugh, maybe this can be yours. I found it while googling:

Sent for basic training to St John's Wood, London, and billeted in Mostyn Hotel (requisitioned by the RAF).

    http://catalogue.postalheritage.org.uk/dserve/dserve.exe?dsqServer=localhost&dsqIni=Dserve.ini&d sqApp=Archive&dsqCmd=Show.tcl&dsqDb=Catalog&dsqSea rch=((AltRefNo='post%2054')OR((text)='postage% 20stamp*'))&dsqPos=11

So it was a Mostyn Hotel in London used as billet...

Sounds much more likely than my theory, Pavel. Well done!

    Default Unit at Mostyn

My thanks for replies. The original query arose from the Canadian War Museum which has in its collection a drawing of an airman identified as "Flight Sergeant Allun Gold, Mostyn A.R.C." There was the suspicion that "Allun" might be "Allen" or even "Alun" but owing to an over-exposed and illegible microfilmed record I was unable to confirm the spelling of the name. I shall be passing the information about Mostyn and the Mostyn Hotel back to the museum.

    Again, thanks for the assist.

    Hugh, glad I can help.
I suppose it may be the right connection.
As far as I know Air Crew Reception Centre or later No. 3 Air Crew Reception Centre was based in Regents Park, Lodon and Mostyn Hotel lies just between the lower end of Regents Park and Oxford street.
