    Default Names on War Memorial in Bosham Sussex

    Dear All
    Can anyone help ?
    A church archivist friend who lives in Bosham has asked for help in finding information about the WW2 RAF men listed on the Bosham War Memorial. Bosham is on the south coast near Chichester .
    She has given me a list of names and their details, as known and hopes to compile a register and would like to find out how these men died and their missions in which they were killed or MIA and their sqdns -if known.

    228 Sqdn. Panel 215 Runnymede memorial .
    Parents: James & Mabel G Abram .Wife Barbara Joyce Abram of Bosham

    Gr/Capt. Charles H APPLETON RAF 24139 .Born 1906 died 12.8.44 No Sqdn given
    Buried IV.C 14 Banneville-la -Campagne War Cemetery.
    Parents: Capt.Henry M & Maud Appleton .Wife Yvonne M Appleton of S. Rhodesia

    F/O David Charles HOULE RAFVR 123122 .Born 1921 Died 23.5.43 .No Sqdn given
    Buried Sec G Grave 365 North Lincoln [Newport] Cemetery
    Parents : Stanley T W [of Lincoln] & Kathleen M Houle of Bosham

    F/O John Kenneth HOULE RAFVR 164738 .Born 1923 [in Bosham] Died 6.11.45 No Sqdn given. Column 283 Alamein memorial.
    Parents: as above .He was the brother of David Houle

    A/C 1st class W.OP Air/Gnr William Kirby LAMBERT RAF 358419 Born 1906 Died 3.5.40.

    Well F/Sgt Abram was lost on Sunderland ML762 over the Bay of Biscay.

    F/L Emery's father was the First Officer of the SS Athenia when it was sunk on 03/09/39.

    Have some more for you:

    LAMBERT was on Blenheim IV L9297 of 2 SAC crashed mile N of Andover. Casualties:
    Sgt J.M. Longley - 581463
    P/O R.J. Carter - 78271
    AC2 C.A. Wadman - 630909.

    APPLETON was on Typhoon IB MN928 of 247 Sqn hit by Flak near Flers and crashed Le Mesnil Guerard, Calvados, France. First buried Le Mesnil Guerard, reinterred Banneville la Campagne War Cem. Calvados.

    J.K. HOULE was on Wellington XIV NB964 of 621 Sqn missing on a ferry flight to Wadi Halfa, Sudan. Casualties:
    W/O E.B. Holloway - 1377343
    F/Sgt T.K. Clucas - 1683573
    F/Sgt J.W. Wilson - 1683541
    LAC J. Parker - 950688
    LAC R. Price - 1644248.

    Hi Anne
    I have a William K Lambert,34, registered at Andover in the 2nd Qtr of 1940 and in Warner's "Blenheim" is recorded the t/o crash at Andover of Blenheim IV,L9297 with the loss of all on board incl. an AC1 W Lambert among the crew members
    The unit was No2 School of Army Co-operation, based at Andover

    As far as I know was D.C. HOULE a pilot with 231 Sqn based at York. Can't find a matching a/c serial (Lysander - Mustang - Tomahawk).

    I've NASH being assigned to Radio/Radar Intelligence and Radio Counter Measures Work at Little Snoring, Norfolk (100 Group). No more info.

    Hi Anne
    Jack Charlton Nash,37, has his death recorded at Norwich, Norfolk in the 4th Qtr of '44. He is in Chorley Vol 9,Roll of Honour, as dying on 4/12/44 and his unit is given as Little Snoring.
    100 Gp were involved in Radio and Radar interception and countermeasures for most of the war. As an LAC, I would doubt if he was called upon to fly operationally
