    Default 14/09/41 Blenheim/Catfoss.

    Hi,
On 14th Sept 41, 4 aircraft from 407sqdn were sent out to search for a missing Blenheim from Catfoss, search only found oil slick on water 23 miles NE of Spurn Head. Can't find anything in BC or Coastal losses, does anyone know which aircraft it was.
    TIA........AlanW.

    Hi Alan
The nearest I can find in Warner's Blenheim is the loss of Blenheim IV, V5729, of 2(C) OTU based at Catfoss, that failed to return from a Navex over the N Sea and was presumed to have crashed into the sea,but on 15/9/41. The lost crew were Sgt J Talbot, Sgt J Spero and Sgt K Blackmore, which may tie in with other info that you have or that comes to you. It would be the kind of incident that would provoke a search.
    Regards
    Dick

    Dick/Alan,
Correct Blenheim serial was V5759 and I believe that the date 15-9-1941 in Air Britain must be 14-9-1941. Perhaps Ross more info ?
    Regards,
    Henk.

    Henk/Dick,
Thanks, on checking CWGC and GRO, both confirm date of death for the crew as 14/09/41.

    Hi Gents,

Came to the same theory about crash date based on death certificates.

Form 1180 is not too clear as to 15th or 14th.

    Regards
    Ross

    Thanks Ross,
Regarding the 407sqdn ORB which i have a copy of for May 1941 to Dec 42, i think it's the worst one i've come across for trying to read, most of the pages are unreadable, due to what looks like someone not bothering to change the typewriter ribbon.
