    Default AUS403343 F/O I R Ingram RAAF.

Information required on death of, AUS403343 F/O. Ian Ross INGRAM RAAF.

Ingram, a member of No.225 Sqn.RAF, was shot down on 27 November, 1942, in the Djebel Abiod - Mateur area, Tunisia, whilst on a Tac R.

He succumbed to his injuries on 29 November, 1942, and lies buried in Bone War Cemetery, Annaba (VI.A.16).

The Item Notes on his undigitised A705, identify his aircraft as; Hurricane IIE HL887. Can anyone positively identify Ingram's Hurricane?

    Have read Ingram's digitised A9300.

    Any help appreciated,
    Col.

    Col,

HL887, according to Air Britain serials volume, was a Hurricane IIC last recorded as being with 213 Sqn and SOC 8.3.44.

    Errol,

Thanks for the AB information (That's what I needed).

Francis Mason, in; The Hawker Hurricane:An Illustrated History(Crecy,2001) p.247, states:- (Hurricane) HL887 Trop. Mk.IIC. No.213 Sqn., Misurata, Libya; M.T. column escorts, AK-W, 2-43.

So, presumably, still on 213 Sqn. strength in February,43'.

    Hi everyone,

Having read John Rawling's, 'Coastal,Support and Special Squadrons', (p.152-3), I notice that Hurricane IIC HL877, was in fact, on No.225 Sqn. strength between Feb 42' & April 43'.

Could someone ( Errol ?), please supply an AB. history of this aircraft?

    TIA,
    Col.

    Col,

We go from bad to worse, I'm afraid!

Serials HL868-HL878 inclusive were not allocated, according to the relevant A-B serials volume, also Bruce Robertson's 'British Military Aircraft Serialss 1878-1987'.
