What were the places of death registration for:

A - Killed on active service (while engaged on non-operational flying duties or on the ground through enemy action):
Sgt (WOp/Ag) Horace ARCHER - 1354346.

B - Died on active service:
AC1 Derek I. BAMBER - 1075166;
AC1 Ernest CLEGG - 963490;
F/Lt Frank D. DEELEY - 72357, and
F/Sgt Ellis MATTHEWS - 35366 - 87 Sqn (Colerne, Wiltshire).

C - Not found Flight archives:
Sgt (Ag) Terence McCORRY - 522577 - 95 Sqn (Sqn left UK 17-3-1941 for Freetown, Sierra Leone).

D - Also looking for info on unit and possible cause of death of two airmen commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial:
F/Lt Walter A.S. BLACKDEN - 86432 - 224 Sqn (Limavady, Londonderry) - Panel 201, and
Sgt George R. STOOKES - 1177309 - commemorated Panel 53.

E - Proposed aircraft lost this day:
Hudson I - N7318 - 6 OTU - overshot landing Thornaby.

KILLED IN ACTION.— Sgt T. Macorry; Flight Magazine dated March 12th 1942. Registered in the Plympton district, Devonshire

Slightly different spelling but there is no one of the that name on CWCG.

He is buried in Belfast, I wonder if the Squadron is a scanning error in CWGC? or an long term injury, but then he would be died of wounds.

F/Sgt Ellis MATTHEWS - age 38 Westminster, I can't account for the district, supposedly abolished prior to that date but Middlesex I can only guess.

Did I beat Dick to it this time??

Hi Dennis
As you can see you did beat me to it.
When you looked up Westminster it was an old area now defunct, but did you notice near the top of the London list the "City of Westminster" district. I have noticed that on the registration list they very frequently abbreviate to save space so they simply put Westminster just as they shorten Grantham and W Kesteven to simply Grantham, another defunct name.

I got the following from the No.3 SGR ORB for the 13th November.

November 13th 1941, “P/O J. Best, late of 256 Squadron killed in a Defiant crash landing on the station. F/Lt P. Deeley, Officer in charge of the Preston Embarkation Officer, under this Unit for Administrative purposes, involved in an MT accident from which he and his passenger subsequently died.”

That covers Deeley and one other, possibly on a subsequent day.

Hi Henk

Archer was on the Hudson I which crashed making an emergency landing at Thornaby.
Unit was 6 (C) OTU. The other crew all survived

Henk, for Hudson N8318 I agree with what has already being said and have Sgt Archer as being the only fatality.

I also have the pilot as Sgt Henderson RAF who was slightly injured. Nav, Sgt Du Plooy (needs checking!) RAF, ok. and what I assume to be WOp/AG, Sgt Ashton RAF, slightly injured.

No further details on the survivors.

The aircraft is believed to have struck an air raid shelter after making a speedy landing after an engine failed in the circuit.
