    Default 6 Group Pool, 1939

    Hello all,

can anyone tell me a little about No 6 Group Pool? I have a Fairey Battle L5220 that crash landed on the 20th September 1939 and was on strength of 6 Group Pool.

Am i correct in thinking this was similar to an OTU that supplied crews to 6 Group? AB lists the aircraft as 150 squadron.
Where would 6 Group Pool have been based at this time?

Any help would be gratefully received!

    Cheers, Tom

    Hi Tom
From Flying Training and Support Units since 1912- Ray Sturtivant and John Hamlin the group Pools were planned in Jan 1939 to relieve Squadrons of their Training Tasks but the idea was abandoned by Apr 39 except for one for Fighter Command and one for the RAFVR. A Sqn of each Bomber group was withdrawn to perform the task and in due course they were absorbed into OTUs. It would appear that 6 Gp Pool never actually came into existence but it might explain your Sqn No. 6 Gp Pool was planned to form at Henlow but like the others the idea was not taken up
    Regards
    Dick
