    Default Defiant loss - 13MAY40 - Netherlands

    Hello,

Defiant L6965. Pilot P/O A.M. MacLeod and LAC W.E.Cox. Seems they evaded capture.

    Phil,

You might like to obtain a copy of 'After the Battle Magazine' Number 134 Article - Unlucky Baptism of Fire' which gives a pretty detailed account of 264 Sqn mission to Rotterdam 13/5/1940, include a report by P/O McLeod. It also mentions that Walter Cox died 23/2/1953.

Checking Armed Forces Memorial www.forcesmemorial.org.uk it lists :-

747745 F/Sgt Walter Edward COX RAF Colerne died 23/2/1953 Age 40 Born 2/4/1912

    264 Squadron lost

    P/O Alexander McLeod 42013 on 28th May 1940.

The After the Battle article above, was it a war time report from McLeod or soem thign postwar?

Where does the A. M. McLeod name come from again?

    Hello Dennis,

Thanks for your reply. Regarding his name, many sources give A.M. McLeod. Checking the London Gazette it is stated that Alexander MacLeod received his commission in November 39.
Among the various sources, it must be said that there is a combat report at the NA for a 13 MAY 40 claim and under the name of a A.M. McLeod (264 Sqn).

    Phil
