    Default Missing Observer PtII

    Gents,

I have found another 218 airman who bailed-out of his Stirling prematurely.
P/O P F W Gales bailed out over Munich September 19th 1942. Again I can find no record of him in FOTSOT by Clutton-Brock, can anyone help.?

    TIA

    Hi Steve
It would appear that he did not survive, http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_details.aspx?casualty=1270558, as his death is recorded as 23/9/42., and he is commemorated at Runnymede. He is recorded as one of the crew of Stirling I, R9187, HA-A, lost without trace on 23-24/9/42 from a raid on Vegesack. (Chorley BCL Vol 3) He is also recorded as MiD which may show up on LG.
    Regards
    Dick

    Dick,

Thanks for that, there appears to be a typo in the ORB, the offending observer is / was P/O A. Sharpe.

    Thanks again

    What about this man:

from Ross' lists on this site.

Gazette Issue 35279 published on the 19 September 1941. Page 13 of 82
    1052360 Allan Mclnnes SHARPE (104480).

Gazette Issue 35717 published on the 22 September 1942. Page 2 of 6
Plt. Offs. (prob.) confmd., in appts. and to be Flg. Offs. (war subs.) :.
    A. Mcl. SHARPE (104480).

He would be a P/O at the time he was captured on Sep 9th?
