    Default Air Training Corps

    Hello all,

Iīm looking for info about exact numbers of A.T.C. squadrons based in Ulverston and Barrow-in-Furness, in second half of 1942. Any other info about these two units of A.T.C. will be warmly appreciated too.

    TIA

    Milan,

The first issue of the 'A.T.C. Gazette' (March 1941) contains a list of 'registered squadrons' (about 200 of them).

Barrow-in-Furness is listed under Lancashire as No.128.

There are many other Lancashire squadrons also listed but not one for Ulverston (perhaps it was formed later?). The others in Lancashire were at Liverpool, Bolton, Manchester, Manchester Central and New Manchester, Blackpool, Lytham St Annes, Urmston, Ashton-under-Lyme, Bacup, Southport, Eccles, Widnes, Didsbury, Leigh, Newton Heath, Sale, Salford, Wythenshaw, Oldham, Preston, Lancaster, Newton-le-Willows, Burnley, and Darwen.

There are also a dozen school units listed for Lancashire.

    Hello Errol,
thank you very much for your reply.
Squadron based in Barrow-in-Furness has same number till today.
Concerning to Ulverstonīs squadron, it is No. 2223 Squadron of Air Training Corps in the present, but my airman mentioned Ulverstonīs unit as a No. 80 flight of ATC during the second half of the 1942.

Second chance is, that unit is one of your school units in Lancashire.

    Milan,

In the list I mentioned No.80 is shown as Bolton, Lancashire.

The School ATC units listed are not accompanied by numbers.
