The above crashed in the North Sea on 3/8/43.

A dinghy was picked up and the pilot Frank Denis Mottram is reported to have later died (the same day). The Nav is shown as a P/O Phillips. I cannot trace any Phillips who died close to that date. Can anybody confirm if he did in fact survive
Unfortunately no Service No given to facilitate a LG search

    Cheers

Flight Casualty Listings give Mottram as Killed in Action.

    date OCTOBER 7TH, 1943 magazine.

No sign of anyone missing, died, killed, or commonwealth on that page with name Phillips.

is the info from the ORB and does it imply Phillips was in the same dinghy?

    Hi Dennis

The ORB wording is not helpful

'3 aircraft were sent out on ASR search and one succeeded in locating a dinghy. Unfortunately one of our aircraft Beaufighter T5276 Pilot F/O Mottram, Navigator P/O Phillips failed to return. A further ASR was undertaken and dinghy was picked up but the pilot subsequently died'

Whether or not Phillips was in the dinghy doesn't get a mention

    Cheers

Eddie, these Catfoss losses interest me, but sorry, I cant help on this one.

Have you tried Rodney at the old airfield to see what he knows?

Eddie. I was begining to wonder if you'd diversified. Im also interested in these incidents and probably like you chaps Ive no names for many of the incidents, of which Catfoss had alot in the sea. Any findings would be great, thanks. Rich
