    Default Individual letter Battle L5528

    Dear all,

I'm looking for the individual letter of Fairey Battle L5528 of 150 Squadron. It was lost 27th July 1940 while bombing up at the dispersal area and made an attack on a search light position in my research area 3 days earlier.

This loss is mentioned in the Bomber Command Losses by W. R. Chorley, however without individual code.

    Thanks in advance,

    Hans Nauta

    Hi Hans
Michael J F Bowyer's "Aircraft for the Few" covers most a/c types used by the RAF during 1940 extending beyond the Fighters. He records your a/c as being burnt out in a ground incident on 27/7/40 and describes it as B/L5528. There is no detail on other ops etc flown by the a/c.
    Regards

    Hello Dick,

That's just what I was looking for: B/L5528, assuming that B would be the individual letter then.

Thanks a lot for your effort!

    Hi Hans
After Chorley it is an odd way to write the a/c code letter but I think your assumption is the right one
