    Default 68 Sqn - 18 May 1941

    Hi All

Can anyone assist with this one?

WISKAR, IRWIN HAROLD and BUTCHER, GEOFFREY ROBERT were members of No 68 Sqn and their deaths are quoted as 18 May 1941 on CWGC. They are both registed at Wellington (Shropshire or Somerset?)

68 Sqn lost Blenheim Blenheim I, L8675 on this date but it spun in at Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, a long way from either of the Wellingtons.

Were Wiskar and Butcher in L8675 or is the crash location given in Air Britain incorrect?

Blenheim L8675, near the sugar factory at Allscott, Wellington, Salop. I believe AB is incorrect in this case.

Hi Malcolm, as Dave pointed out the location as being near the now demolished sugar beet factory at Allscott near Crudgington (which AB evidently thought to read Ruddington). The pilot lived just over the hill from the crash site, which was pin pointed to me by a witness last year and local folklore is that he was flying over the house when the crash happened.

The squadron was operating from RAF High Ercall at the time, just a mile or so away from the crash site.

    Cheers, Tom
