Hugh Junor

Looking for more info on the death of pilot Hugh Junor who I believe was killed on August 19, 1926, while testing Gamecock J7906 out of Hucclecote. He had previously flown on behalf of T E Lawrence in Arabia. For in-laws' family history (the Tarrant family of ill-fated Tarrant Tabor bomber fame).

R.A.F. ACCIDENTS
OFFICER KILLED NEAR GLOUCESTER
Flight-Lieutenant Hugh Robert Junor, R.A.F., of Ash Vale, Hants, was killed in an aeroplane accident at Huccelecote, near Gloucester, yesterday afternoon. He was testing a machine before taking it back to Farnborough. The aeroplane fell into a nose dive and crashed into a garden. The pilot attempted to leave the machine in a parachute but was too late and was killed.
The machine struck the earth near an outhouse and burst into flames, which set the shed on fire. Two men who were having dinner in the shed were burned on the face and hands and suffered from shock. Both were taken to the Royal Infirmary and detained. The body of the dead officer was removed to Gloucester mortuary to await the inquest. He had been attached to the R.A.F. at Farnborough for the past four years and was a member of the experimental section. He was 31 and married but had no children.
This is the fourth fatal R.A.F. accident this week and the tenth since August 3.

Just found this post while researching Hugh junior. He was my maternal grandfathers brother. I have data and photos held by the family. Always wondered what happened to penny tar rant. Can we get in direct contact with each other? Guy

Further to the above, my sister was the author of the article in the T E Lawrence journal. He is buried a few miles from where I live in by fleet, Surrey, south of England, uk.

Hi Guy,
A bit of a long shot, but I too am researching Hugh Junor and my wife's 2x Gt Uncle was Hugh's father-in-law W.G. Tarrant and Elsie's father (elsie is a 1st cousin 2x removed). There were no family records of the Tarrants' save for WG's youngest brother (wife's Gt Grandfather). I see you have some family records for Hugh and maybe that would include a photo or two. All I've found is a very grainy newspaper image of the couple on their marriage day in 1925. I've also determined that Hugh, for a short time and in two spells, attended the same school as my eldest grandson and he and I would like to tell the school about a long past former pupil.

I appreciate its been 10+ years since you posted but if I don't try to make contact I'll never know!
