    Default Allan Ebert

Allan Ebert was apparently the first person from Ceylon to qualify as a pilot in the RAF. Paddy Finucane was his bestman at his wedding in 1942 and he later flew Beaufighters in the Middle East. Does anyone have other details of his RAF career, units he flew with, sucesses, etc.

    Many thanks,

    Ian

    Ian, Hi,
There's a fair amount in the London Gazette for an Albert Victor Ebert. This might be yr man. His Service Number was 31140. Use that in the "exact word" box in the LG search page.

On the other hand you may wish to chase an Edgar Allan Glaucus Beven Ebert (or Glaucus Edgar Allan Ebert he seems to have quoted some (but not always all)! of his forenames in random order!!!) who was Commissioned from LAC (905842) to Plt Off (105141) on 3 Sep 41 (http://www.gazettes-online.co.uk/issues/35319/pages/6114). He seems to have walked in off the street to the Recruiting Centre at Uxbridge some time in (or after) Sep 1939 in order to Enlist (he would have been 22 yrs old). He seems to have had a Ceylonese connection (as at http://www.dutchburgherunion.org/genealogy/ancestry-e/JDBU%201955%20Vol%2045%20No%201%20p26-47%20-%20Ebert%20Ancestry(1).pdf
in that his parents were married in Kalutara, Ceylon (just south of Colombo) on 9 Apr 1917. He was born 17 Dec 1917.
Let us know how you get on!
