Default Beaufort crash 20 Apr 1942 North Devon

I posted a request on this one earlier and got a couple of details but thought I would try again for those who have access to Beaufort files. The accident near Barnstable involved P/O Fred GD Baker, RCAF J/7620 and possibly F/O (Obs) Harry C. PEARCE - MiD - 60773 who died five days later. Baker was training at No. 5 OTU at the time.

Henk has provided serial no N1028 and the possibility that Pearce (502 Sqn) was one of the crew. Does anyone else have more such as the other two crew members and the circumstances?

    Thanks

    Default RAF Chivenor, North Devon

    Hello David,

The coastal town of Barnstable, North Devon is very close to the former RAF Chivenor airfield. (1930-1996, now a Royal Marine Base) In 1942 No.3 (Coastal) Operational Training Unit and No. 252 Squadron were operating Beaufighters, Blenheims and Beauforts. 502 Sqn, also based there same time were operating a mixed bag of Wellingtons and Whitleys. There was a large contingent of RCAF there. Not directly answering your question about the crash but it could be useful information.

    Norman
