What were the places of death registration for:

A - Died on active service:
LAC Ashley BECK - 1325825 - age 29.

B - Killed on active service:
F/Sgt Angus BUCHANAN - 535837;
LAC (Obs u/t) Richard E. HENSON - 1014069, and
LAC (Obs u/t) Wilfred JONES - 1032809.

C - Died of wounds or injuries received on active service:
Sgt (Pilot) Thomas G. SMITH - 1293244.

D - Proposed aircraft losses for this day:
Magister I - P2468 - 2 FPP - flew into ground Raffles, near Carlisle.
Master I - T8610 - 5 FTS - crashed in forced landing ½ mile NE of Gnosall, Staffordshire.
Master I - T8626 - 9 FTS - dived into ground Bakers Cross, Halton Heath, Wiltshire (already as a casualty on this a/c: LAC [Pilot u/t] E.H. HOOPER - 656741).
Wellington III - X3605 - 3 FPP - crashed on landing Millom.

Some of the people on the list for the 13th were on an Anson from No.1 AOS, the ORB recorded the serial as AW850.

January 13th 1942, “Aircraft, Anson AW850 crashed at Carsegowan, Wigtown, No.53583 F/Sgt Buchanan killed No.80290 LAC Carley killed No.1032809 LAC Jones killed, No.1014069 LAC Henson killed, No.R72648 Sgt Ross missing believed killed.”

The Magister that was being ferried by No.2 FPP was recorded in the No.15 EFTS ORB as the following.

January 13th 1942, “Accident to Mag. P2468 Pilot S/O Pelham (ATA) ferrying a/c to unit, flew into ground due to bad visibility.”

Beck,29, registered in Huntingdon, Huntingdonshire at the time now part of Cambridgeshire
Smith, 24, registered at Chippenham,Wiltshire.This does not necessarily connect him to T8626. You already have a name for that a/c,Hooper, and he is registered in Poole ,Dorset which is on the coast well S of Wiltshire. There is a Baker's Cross in Dorset but this is some way from Poole and there were registrars in Bridport and Dorchester,both much closer to where I think the crash site is indicated on Google maps. I saw that AB Serials gives Bakers Cross as the crash site and puts it in Wiltshire, but given Hooper's registration in Poole I would query the site.

T8626- ABS has Bakers Cross, Halton Heath Wilts. I think this should read Bakers Cross Holton Heath. Dorset. Holton Heath is a village and open space west of Poole at 195/9591. I have not been able to pin down the Bakers Cross bit yet.

OS map shows Baker's Cross situated on the road between Wootton Fitzpaine and Whitchurch Canicorum at the junction with the road to Higher Abbots Wootton Farm (slightly to North of Conegar Hill)

Yes but this is 45 miles from Poole, near Lyme Regis. I concentrated on the Holton/Halton Heath bit. No doubt Bakers Cross is a local name for a crossroads in the area. I may find it yet.

AW850 was in my files but only with the names of the two Canadians (ROSS and CARLEY); for that reason not mentioned in the proposed aircraft losses for the 13th.
