    Default WWI Military Medal search

    Ladies & Gents,

I know this is not the correct forum but I do require help & so far this forum has always provided a link.

I am trying to trace the Issue of the MM to a
    40736 Pte. Andrew Younger
    Northamptonshire Rgt.
His medal card has him awarded Victory & War medal.
His family have his MM it was sent to him in the post after the war.

I am trying to help his grandaughter to find the story behind the issue of the MM.

    Thank you

    Chris

    Amrit,

No indication on his MIC only War & Victory on this.

No luck with the MM search either.

I have contacted the London Gazette to see if they can help.

it is highly unlikely that you will find out the actual action that he was awarded the MM for as generally the citations for WW1 MM's have not survived. You may get some indication from the unit war diary which will be in the WO95 series at Kew; it may also be one of the diaries that have been digitised and are available to be downloaded from the National Archives website. The MM will be on a seperate index card and not necessarily shown on his MIC for his pair.

    Regards

sorry, I an confused. I posted links to his two medal cards - one for his service medals, and one for MM.

And I posted the link for the LG for his MM. As Mutley stated there is no citation.

    Did I miss something?

As the London Gazette dates are normally about 3 months behind the date of the action for which the award was granted, your chap would seem to have won it during March 1918, and there is a chance it was for actions during the German advance in March (from the 21st onwards).

This is however only a guess. You are best searching the War Diaries, or possibly the regimental journals. You could alsotry posting for more information on the Great War Forum.

    Amrit,
When I tried your links nothing came up, but I contacted the LG & they forwarded me the
    said page.

    Mutley,
    thank you.

    Johnnie/Amrit.
My chap was at Passchendale in 1917 as a medic for the Northamptonshire rgt.

    thank you all once again.

    Chris
